This county camp was a celebration of the 100th birthday of Scouting. 2500 campers, and 1000 day visitors gathered at Linnet Clough, for the biggest Centenary Camp in the country.
The camp began with an action packed opening ceremony, with fireworks, music and an array of colour and light, creating a great carnival atmosphere. A giant centipede entered the arena with 100 cubs, scouts and explorers inside it.
Saturday and Sunday were free days, each of the Cubs, Scouts and Explorers having wrist bands that allowed them to complete a range of activities including:
- Climbing
- Archery
- Shooting
- High Ropes
- Low Ropes
- Quad Biking
- Skate Park
- Inflatables
- Mountain Biking
- Crafts
- Trampolines
At the end of each day there was a campfire for the day visitors. After this was a spectacular talent show, featuring 100s of Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Leaders, singing, dancing, acting and showing how much talent there is in GME.
On Monday, we all ate breakfast and lunch together, 2500 of us sat together in the rain to eat while watching some of the final 100 investitures.

This special camp was also entered into the Guinness Book of Records, for pancake tossing, with 1029 people simultaneously tossing pancakes at the same place. Well done GME.
At the end of closing ceremony, each person released a coloured balloon, lighting up the sky with colour one last time.
It rained, it was muddy, and it was a once in a life time opportunity.
